Putnam City North begins the new volleyball season Tuesday (Aug. 11) with a new coach.

Taylor Fleener will lead the program. Fleener was the head coach at Westmoore in 2022. She also owns the Oklahoma Volleyball Academy, coaches at Chaos Volleyball and is a realtor.

Fleener will get a brand new squad at North. She says the freshmen on the team are mostly first-time players.

“I am incredibly excited about the upcoming season and the opportunity to lead the PC North volleyball program,” Fleener said in a preseason questionnaire. “We have a talented group of athletes, and I’m looking forward to seeing how much we can grow throughout the season.”

Fleener wants to compete “at a high level” but is also focusing on building a strong program culture which is “centered around discipline, accountability, teamwork, and pride in representing PC North.”

“Our goal is to be fun to watch and support, no matter what the scoreboard says,” Fleener said.

With new expectations and building a new identity, Fleener expects challenges but also sees potential.

“Our goal is to get better every day, compete with confidence, and create a standard that our athletes are proud to uphold. I’m excited to see what this group can accomplish and to begin building something special at PC North.”

Fleener likes what she has seen so far.

“We are going to be the dark horse of the conference, in just three weeks we have seen TREMENDOUS growth in our team culture and our athletes in general. It’s going to be a fun season.”

Last season’s Panther squad went 21-13 and won the Oklahoma 7 Conference Tournament. They made an early exit at regionals.

Fleener replaces Brian Mosley, who had two coaching stints at North.

UP NEXT

The Panthers open the season Tuesday (Aug. 11) at home against Enid. The match begin at 6 p.m.

The Pacers were 9-20 last season. Enid began last season with a 3-1 win over North.
