OKLAHOMA CITY — Putnam City West improved to 3-0 against its sister schools Tuesday (Sept. 29) with a 3-0 win over Putnam City North.

West coach Tyler Thompson called the match a “great atmosphere” with multiple middle schools in the building for the Patriots’ “Pink Out” game.

“Huge win for us,” Thompson said via text.”North has historically been the dominant team in the district and sometimes our kids can be afraid of the name on the jersey. Our kids came in feeling like we are the better team and wanted to play with that confidence.”

Sophomore libero Mia Lino gave West plenty of reasons to be confident in the first set. Tied at 6-6, Lino and the Patriots reeled of 16 straight serves before they sided out with West holding a 22-7 lead.

Over half of the serves during that stretch were aces.

Thompson said sophomore Caitlyn Alexander and junior Kami Liles had several blocks which frustrated North’s tall front line “who likes to swing.”

North kept it close in the third set, but senior Zoe Salas sealed the win.

“(Zoe) made a smart play with a dump to pretty much put ice on them,” Thompson said.

UP NEXT

West will travel to 3A Oklahoma Christian School Thursday (Oct. 1) at 6 p.m.

Both the Patriots and Pirates will compete at the Big 7 Conference Tournament Friday and Saturday (Oct. 2-3) at West.
