PIEDMONT — Despite a third quarter surge, Putnam City’s struggles continued into 6A-II-1 play Friday (Sept. 25) with a 43-22 loss to Piedmont.
Trailing 20-7 at halftime, PC (0-4, 0-1) scored 15 points in the third quarter but the Wildcats added nine points to keep a touchdown lead. Piedmont (2-2, 1-0) scored twice in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The Pirates were able to run the ball in the loss, totalling 229 yards on the ground. Junior Marcico Petties Jr. had 15 carries and 106 yards and senior Kahmi Herrera rushed 15 times for 100 yards. As a team, Original averaged 6.5 yards a carry.
In the air, senior Daeveon Simmons was 5-of-12 for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Shawn Jones III rolled up 102 yards receiving on just two catches.
On defense, senior Wyatt Keefer had nine tackles. Fellow senior Keandre Huffman had five. Juniors Deangelo Robinson and Dominque Bacon each had a tackle for loss.

The Pirates (0-4, 0-1) return home to host sister school Putnam City North (0-4, 0-0) next Friday (Oct. 2) at 7 p.m. for PC’s Homecoming.
The Panthers dropped a 42-6 contest to 5A Newcastle on Sept. 18. North was idle this week.
