OKLAHOMA CITY — Putnam City North scored four runs each in the first two innings of a 10-1 rout of rival Putnam City West Tuesday (Sept. 22).

The win ensured an undefeated regular season record for North over its two sister schools.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. A walk and two singles loaded the bases with one out. Patriot first baseman Shelby Taylor singled to right to score Kiyra Holcomb.

North starter Amya Frazier struck out West’s Jaylee Echeverria and Melody Whyman grounded out to end the inning.

“West was a scrappy team and I was really impressed with the fight and aggressiveness at the plate and I told their head coach that,” Putnam City North coach D’Antae Mitchell said via text.

In the bottom half of the inning, North senior Laila Willoby-Taylor hit a 3-run inside-the-park home run which scored fellow seniors Presley Standridge and Savannah Martinez.

With two outs, senior Grayson Petty reached on an error by West pitcher Fernanda Najera. Petty moved to second base on the same error and to third on a wild pitch.

Senior Maddy Pratt singled home Petty for a 4-1 lead.

“As for my seniors, I was really happy to see them go out their way and play the game the right way,” Mitchell said. The things we talk about everyday they displayed tonight and our bats were on.”

In the second inning, a walk, a hit batsmen and a West error added more runs.

Kaylssa Smith drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center field. Martinez scored on a passed ball and Petty singled in a run.

North added two more runs in the third inning, Senior Dekaia Bulock’s single and Standridge’s double got the rally going. Senior Kayla Orton drove in a run with a groundout and Martinez plated another with a single to left field.

Panther Amya Frazier allowed three hits over five innings. She walked two batters and struck out six.

Martinez had a 2-for-2 day. Petty and Pratt added 2-for-3 performances.

For West, Holcomb, Aalyiah Lewis and Taylor each had a hit in the loss.

UP NEXT

Putnam City North (5-16, 1-10) plays Edmond Memorial Wednesday (Sept. 23) at 6:30 p.m. in a 6A-1 contest that was postponed from Sept. 10 due to wet field conditions.

The Bulldogs (9-18-2, 7-5) dropped a 6-3 contest to Westmoore on Tuesday.

Putnam City West (4-15, 0-8) hosts Yukon for a 6A-2 doubleheader Thursday (Sept. 24) at 5 p.m.

The Millers (14-7, 5-5) earned an 8-3 win over Bartlesville on Tuesday. Yukon enters the game on a 6-game winning streak.
