OKLAHOMA CITY — El Reno scored big early and late in a 12-6 win over Putnam City North Tuesday (Aug. 11).
The 5A Indians banged out 16 hits in the win and took advantage of four Panther errors.
Despite the early 6-0 deficit, North answered with three runs in the third inning.
With a runner on and one out, senior Presley Standridge walked. An infield pop fly from senior Savannah Martinez followed. Senior Kayla Orton singled in junior Kayleigh Andrews.
Sophomore Amaya Frazer followed with a triple to right field which scored Standridge and Orton to make it 6-3.
El Reno added a run in the top of the fourth.
North crept closer in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out rally. It started with a walk to Andrews. Standridge doubled to left field to bring in Andrews. Martinez followed with a double to left field to drive in Standridge.
Martinez went to third base on a passed ball and scored on Orton’s single to center to make it 7-6.
The Indians scored a run in the fifth inning and four runs in the seventh to pull away for the win.
Standridge finished with a 2-for 3 day. Orton was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.
