OKLAHOMA CITY — Shawnee scored eight runs in the fifth inning to turn a one-run game in to a blowout in a 14-5 loss Monday (Aug. 10).
The 5A Wolves got a double, triple and two home runs in the big inning.
North took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-out rally.
Senior Savannah Martinez walked and fellow senior Laila Willoby-Taylor singled to center field. Senior Kayla Orton hit a ground ball to first which turned into an error and scored Martinez and Willoby-Taylor.
The Wolves answered with a three runs in both the second and third innings. Shawnee had three of their five home runs in the game during that stretch.
The Panthers fought back in the bottom of the third inning.
Willoby-Taylor walked with one out. Orton laid down a bunt for a single. Willoby-Taylor stole third base and scored on a fielder’s choice from a ball hit by sophomore Amya Frazier. Orton scored on a wild pitch and a groundout from junior Kaelyn Staden scored Frazier to make it 6-5.

The Panthers host 5A El Reno Tuesday (Aug. 11) at 6:30 p.m.
The Indians dropped a 13-5 contest to Edmond Santa Fe Monday.
Last season, El Reno was 13-18 and made an early exit in regional play.
