Western Heights opens the 2026 softball season Monday (Aug. 10) on the road at Duncan.
Jet coach Kurtis Shelley said he was excited for the new season.
“One of the most rewarding parts of coaching is watching our girls develop, grow their skills, and gain confidence throughout the season,” Shelley said in a preseason questionnaire. “We will focus on learning, working together, and continuing to build a strong love and passion for the game of softball. I’m looking forward to seeing how much this team grows both on and off the field and all that we can accomplish together.”
Returning is senior outfielder Khamiyah Laster. Western Heights will have a core group of juniors returning including 5-foot-1 center fielder and shortstop Abbie Bise, 5-foot pitcher and utility player Jalesa Asimba, second baseman Ann-Marie Bohnstedt and outfielder Natalia Martinez Vasquez.
Newcomers include junior pitcher and utility player Aubrey Kerchee, who previously played at Carnegie. Others new to the Jets are freshman catcher and utility player Scarlet Jones and first baseman Bella Bingen.
The Jets finished 10-20 and 1-11 in district play last year.
Western Heights will play in 5A-1 this season with Altus, Duncan, Elgin, Lawton, Lawton MacArthur and Noble. Last season, Elgin and Duncan made it to the state tournament with Duncan falling in the state title game to Carl Albert.

The Jets meet 5A state runner-up Duncan Monday (Aug. 10) at 5 p.m.
The Demons went 29-10 and 12-0 in district play last season. Duncan won both games with the Jets last season, 17-0 and 15-0.
