BETHANY — Bethany blew open a tight game with Bishop McGuinness Thursday (Aug. 27) and then held on for a 14-10 win in a 4A-3 contest.

Both teams combined for 30 hits and 14 walks in the contest.

The Irish took a 4-2 lead into the third inning. The Bronchos unloaded for three singles and a double to tie the game at 4-4.

In the fourth inning, senior Emma Geissler led off with an infield single. She moved to third base on a double from fellow senior Ella Davis. Senior Jules Barger broke the tie with a sacrifice fly to right field.

In the fifth, a 2-out rally turned into a big inning. With runners at first and second, Geissler singled in sophomore Dani Williams. Senior Grey Williamson doubled to left to drive in sophomore Avery Bibbs and Geissler. Davis capped off the scoring with a 2-run home run over the left field wall to make it 10-4.

Bishop McGuinness got two of the runs back in the sixth inning with a 2-out rally.

The Bronchos answered in the bottom of the sixth. Sophomore Macy and Avery Bibbs drove in runs with a double and single respectively. In all, Bethany had four singles, a double and two walks and plated five runs for a 14-6 lead.

In the seventh, senior Mya Madu and freshman Madelyn Milligan had back-to-back doubles. Then, sophomore Mila Breslin homered to center to pull within four runs with no one out.

Geissler got a groundout, line out and pop out to end the game.

Davis went 3-for-3 with three runs and two runs batted in. Barger added a 3-for-4 day and drove in three runs.

Geissler pitched a complete game. She allowed 13 his in and nine earned runs. Geissler walked seven and struck out four.
