CASHION — Bethany capped off the Jacie Cochran Memorial Tournament with a big inning and a 12-0 run-rule win over 2A Luther Saturday (Aug. 22).

The Bronchos went 4-1 during the event and improved 7-6 overall. Their only loss in Cashion came on Friday to 10-0 Crescent, out of Class 2A.

“Overall, I thought it was a good weekend for us,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said via text. “Nice to get a few wins under our belts.”

Blakley said he had some players entered the weekend struggling at the plate. For the tournament, the Bronchos hit .373 (28-of-75).

“Offensively start finding a rhythm, which is good as we climb further into district play,” Blakley said.

Blakley also commended his piching staff.

“Pitchers did a real good job, minimizing walks and leaving themselves in good situations. For the most part, we were solid defensively, not allowing an unearned run all weekend. If we can do things like that, we will give ourselves chances in any ball game that we play.”

Over the 5-game span, Bethany had three errors. Broncho pitching issued eight walks, four of which came during the opener with Heritage Hall.

In the win over Luther, Bethany scored eight runs in the third inning to blow open a 4-0 lead over the Lions. The Bronchos had two walks and three Luther errors helped open the floodgates.

For the game, the Bronchos had eight hits and walked nine times.

Senior Emma Geissler and Jules Barger each had two hits in the win.

In the circle, Geissler allowed a lone hit over three innings. She struck out two batters and walked none.

Later on Saturday, the Bethany JV earned a 6-3 win over the Edmond Santa Fe JV squad.

UP NEXT

On Monday (Aug. 24), the Bronchos (7-6, 1-2) return to 4A-3 play with a road trip to Weatherford.

The Eagles (2-5, 0-0) will be well rested after having a week off. Last Monday (Aug. 17) Weatherford lost an 8-7 contest to A Seiling and won an 8-7 game with A Canute at Seiling.
