WOODWARD — Bethany rallied in the seventh inning to tie Woodward Monday (Aug. 17) but lost an 11-inning contest, 5-4.
The Bronchos trailed 4-2 with two outs in the seventh inning when senior Ella Davis doubled to center field, scoring sophomore Katelyn Sydnes (who walked) and senior Emma Geissler (who also doubled).
“Happy with how they battled, especially in the seventh to tie it up,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said via text. “Hard to lose one like that but have to bounce back tomorrow.”
The Bronchos had just two baserunners in extra innings, a ninth-inning walk to Geissler and a 10th-inning walk to sophomore Dani Williams.
The Boomers had baserunners in every extra inning but Geissler and the Broncho defense kept them off the board until the 11th.
In the ninth, a Bethany error put a runner on base with one out, but the Bronchos turned a double play to end the threat. In the 10th inning, senior shortstop Jules Barger threw out Woodward junior Tessa Endersby at the plate.
But, the Boomers walked it off in the 11th with a 2-out single from junior Preslea Morales that brought home the winning run.
Geissler threw all 10 2/3 innings with 12 hits and three earned runs. The Bronchos committed four errors in the loss.
“Emma did a great job in the circle,” Blakley said.
The Bronchos took a first-inning lead when Geissler scored on a wild pitch. The Boomers added two runs in the bottom of the inning. In the second inning, freshman Izzy Melton walked and later scored on a dropped third strike to sophomore Avery Bibbs to tie the game at 2-2.
It stayed that way until the fifth inning, when a pair of singles and a double led to two Woodward runs to make it 4-2.

The Bronchos (2-5, 0-2) will host Clinton Tuesday (Aug. 18) at 6:30 p.m. for a 4A-3 matchup.
The Lady Reds (0-5, 0-1) dropped a 7-6 district contest to Bishop McGuinness on Monday.
