NORMAN — Putnam City North junior Miles Jackson scored 16 points in the Panthers’ 64-23 rout of Westmoore Thursday (Dec. 11) in North’s opener at the Joe Lawson Memorial Invitational Tournament at Norman North.

Jackson had seven rebounds, one assists, one steal and a block.

“Miles’ play just shows how talented and deep our team really is,” Putnam City North coach DJ Lemons said via text. “Any night, we can have another leading scorer, especially out of my top eight guys. His defense is improving game by game. I’m happy for him.”

Lemons wants to see more progress from his team, now 6-1.

“There’s a lot that we have to work on,” Lemons said. “I give Westmoore a ton of credit. They have a good coach and good players and we knew they’d make us work for everything. But, that doesn’t change the fact there’s a lot of things I would like us to do better.”

Lemons said he saw a glimpse of what he wants to see more of in the first four minutes of the second half.

“That was to me what we have to do. I thought we came out with great energy, and really guarded the ball. We had five guys defend the ball, and that was the energy I liked.”

Sophomore CJ Heskett added 13 points with two 3-pointers. He scored 10 of his points in the fourth quarter. Junior Mekhi Thomas added eight points, all in the first half.

Senior Malakye Schoats had five steals in the win.
