TULSA — Putnam City dropped two 6A-4 games to Tulsa Union Monday (Sept. 8), 7-4 and 21-2.

UNION 7, PUTNAM CITY 4

The Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Senior Dahlia Hickerson junior Samantha Tidmore opened the game with back-to-back singles. Junior Madi Gossman drove both of them in with a double to center field.

Freshman D’Najah Jarrell followed with a single to score Gossman.

The Redhawks scored two runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Putnam City starter Tessa Goodner toss two scoreless innings before Union broke through with four runs in the fourth to make it 6-3.

The Pirates got a run back in the fifth inning. Goodner tripled to left field with one out. Gossman followed with a single, scoring Goodner to make it 6-4.

The Redhawks added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning to make it 7-4.

Gossman was 3-for-4 with a run scored and three runs batted in. Hickerson and Jarrell added 2-for-4 days. Jarrell drove in the other run. Tidmore and Goodner each had a hit.

Goodner struck out six batters in the loss.

TULSA UNION 21, PUTNAM CITY 1

Union exploded for 17 runs in the final two innings after a 4-0 start. The Pirates committed six errors in the loss.

Tidmore got Original on the board in the third inning with an RBI-single which drove in junior Cadence O’Dell-Brown (who had been hit by a pitch). Junior Payton Grigsby, who had walked earlier in the inning, scored on a wild pitch.

Tidmore had Putnam City’s only hit. The Pirates made plenty of contact, though, with only one strikeout.
