
BETHANY — Bethany broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the sixth inning for a 6-1 win over Clinton Monday (March 31) in a 4A-4 contest.
The Bronchos (12-3, 4-2) struck first in the fourth inning on a bases-loaded single to left field from senior Andrew Taber.
The Red Torandoes (3-10, 1-4) answered with a run in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a Bethany error.
In the sixth inning, the Bronchos loaded the bases on a Clinton error and back-to-back-singles from senior Brock Cross and sophomore Cooper Willis. Fellow sophomore Brody McLaren was hit by a pitch to drive in a run and break the 1-1 tie.
Junior Judson Gilliland broke the game open with a two-run double (his second double of the game). McLaren scored on the throw and Gilliland came around to score during the next at-bat on a passed ball to make it 6-1.
Gilliland finished 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Willis, seniors Charlie Tolle, Joe Berry, Taber and Cross each had hits in the win.
Bethany senior Layton Reither earned the win after scattering three hits in six innings. Reither walked five and struck out seven batters. Cross pitched a scoreless seventh inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.

The Bronchos travel to Clinton (3-10, 1-4) to finish the 4A-4 series Wednesday (April 2) at 2 p.m.
