BIXBY — Putnam City West overcame a slow start and had three players scored in double figures in 76-57 win over Bixby Tuesday (Feb. 4) in a 6A-3 matchup.
“Bounced back from a very sluggish start in the first quarter,” Putnam City West coach Brian Booker said via text. “Felt good to travel two hours and get a big district win.”
After trailing 12-9 at the end of the first quarter, West (8-11, 5-5) outscored Bixby, 29-12, in the second quarter.
Junior Quavion Wheeler scored a game-high 21 points. Fellow junior Damari Coleman added 19 points with three 3-pointers.
Sophomore Mari Gilstrap followed with 11 points. Gilstrap had two treys in the second quarter run.
“We have room to grow though because we still haven’t put together a solid four quarters of basketball,” Booker said.
