WARR ACRES – Putnam City held off Southmoore, 80-73, Tuesday (Dec. 3) despite a high-scoring fourth quarter in the 6A-1 opener for both teams.

“Tough game for us,” Putnam City coach Brandon Jackson said via text. “Wasn’t perfect but we played hard for 32 minutes and trusted each other on the floor and good things came from it.”

Jackson started three sophomores and was pleased with the result.

“(The sophomores) really showed a lot of growth out there tonight,” Jackson said. “It was a team effort to get the win.”

Sophomore Marquell Robinson scored 27 points, hit 7-of-7 from the field, 11-of-14 from the free throw line and grabbed seven rebounds.

Another sophomore, Gabe Osborne, added 17 points and eight boards.

Junior Kelton Locke had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Fellow junior JaColby Williams produced 13 points.

UP NEXT

The Pirates host Putnam City North (1-0) Thursday (Dec. 5) at 6 p.m. The Panthers beat Piedmont, 59-42, Tuesday.
