OKLAHOMA CITY – Bethany will stay in Class 4A District 2 for the next two seasons.
The Oklahoma Secondary Activities Association released the revised football districts for the next two seasons Thursday (May 16).
The revised districts came after five Oklahoma City area private schools sued, protesting the association’s rules on success factor. The lawsuit resulted in a preliminary injunction prohibiting the OSSAA from implementing some of the rules, necessitating the reclassification.
The Bronchos were 6-5 last season and finished fourth in the district. Bethay lost to Clinton in the first round of the playoffs.
Four schools will remain in District 2 with the Bronchos: Blanchard, Tuttle, Tecumseh and Harrah.
The Lions won the district last year, finishing the season at 13-1 and winning the Class 4A title. Tuttle was 9-3 last season, finishing second in the district. The Tigers lost to state runner-up Wagoner in the quarterfinals.
Harrah finished behind Bethany at 6-4, but missed the playoffs. Tecumseh struggled to a 3-7 record, winning only one district game.
Newcomers to District 2 include Ardmore, Chickasha and Madill.
Ardmore moves down from Class 5A and is the fifth largest team in 4A. The Tigers missed the playoffs last season with a 1-9 record. Chickasha was 4-6 last year in 4A District 1 but failed to reach the postseason.
Madill, in southeastern Oklahoma near Lake Texoma, played in the eastern-situated District 4 last season. The Wildcats struggled to a 2-8 record with both wins coming in district play.
