OKLAHOMA CITY – Northwest Classen scored runs in the last three innings of an extra-inning game with Western Heights, beating the Jets 14-11 Friday (April 26).
The Jets (9-14) fell despite outhitting the Knights, 14-10, and scoring a six-run third inning. The 6-3 lead was short-lived, however and Western Heights found itself tied 6-6 in fifth inning.
The Jets pulled ahead 8-6 in the bottom half of the inning, but the Knights came back, scoring three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to go up 11-8.
The Jets came back in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Keziah Howell led off the inning with a hit-by-pitch, Junior A’mi Avelar followed with a single to left field. Junior Jake Bogle cleared the bases with a single to cut the deficit to 11-10.
Northwest Classen junior reliever Jaimie Diaz struck out juniors Kipp Davis and Israel Lopez. The Jets were down to their last out.
Sophomore Connor Logsdon doubled to left, scoring Bogle to tie the game at 11-11.
Western Heights loaded the bases with an error and intentional walk but sophomore Parker Kronk lined out to the left fielder, leading to extra innings.
In the eighth inning, a one-out walk by freshman Jayden Mayfield proved costly. Freshman Oscar Cordoba-Montesinos was hit by a pitch from Kronk. Sophomore Christopher Olivares grounded out to Bogle, scoring Mayfield, making it 12-11. The Jets intentionally walked junior Zachary Mockelman to set up a force out a second base.
Junior Malachi White tripled to left field to make it 14-11.
The Jets got a leadoff single by Howell in the bottom half of the inning, but a fly out and two groundouts sealed the win for the Knights.
