PONCA CITY – Putnam City West senior Jaxon Hyde-Herrera had a big day at the plate on the mound in the Patriots’ 7-2 win over Ponca City Saturday (April 20).

Hyde-Herrera went 3-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in at the plate. On the mound, Hyde-Herrera pitched a complete game allowing two hits and striking out five.

West (10-15, 2-10 in Class 6A District 1) trailed 1-0 in the second inning when senior Kevin Saucedo reached base and advanced to third base on two errors coupled with a sacrifice bunt from fellow senior John Rolling.

Saucedo scored on a single by freshman Alex Jiminez and Rolling scored on a single by senior Zay Washington.

The Patriots added a run in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Hyde-Herrera sent a ball over the right field wall for a two-run homer. An error brought home junior Nathan Vann. West loaded the bases with a walk and senior Rico Hamilton was hit by a pitch, scoring Saucedo.

Vann and Washington each went 1-for-3 on the day.

UP NEXT: The Patriots finish district play Monday (April 22) with a doubleheader at home against Northwest Classen. First pitch of game one is at 5 p.m.
