OKMULGEE – The Bethany Lady Bronchos are back in the state tournament to defend their title.

Like most of their playoff matchups, Bethany dominated their opponent, routing Stilwell, 72-45, Friday (March 1) to win the Class 4A Area II Championship at the Mvskoke Dome.

Bethany (23-4) got big performances from Sooner commits, senior Zya Vann and junior Keziah Lofton.

Vann scored 20 of her 32 points in the first half as Bethany built a 46-20 lead by halftime. Lofton added 14 of her 22 points in the first half.

The Lady Bronchos shot just 30 percent from the field, but they dominated the offensive boards, grabbing 22 rebounds. Bethany also got to the free throw line, hitting 21-of-34 from the line.

Stilwell (21-6) also shot poorly (22 percent) and turned the ball over 16 teams. Bethany collected 13 steals and grabbed 29 defensive rebounds.

UP NEXT: Bethany returns to the state tournament which starts March 5. Locust Grove, Douglass, and Lincoln Christian have all won their respective Area tournaments to qualify.

So far, Lincoln Christian is the only team returning to the tournament besides Bethany. The Lady Bronchos beat the Bulldogs in the last year’s title game, 48-36.

Once Saturday’s Area tournament action concludes, each qualifier will be re-seeded. Bethany will likely be the top seed.
