Lady Patriots down Lady Panthers on PCI opening day

WARR ACRES – Putnam City West pulled away from sister school Putnam City North, 51-40, Thursday (Jan. 4) on the opening day of the Putnam City Invitational at Putnam City High School.

West (8-0) controlled the game from the tip. North (9-3) came within five points (34-29) with :20 left in the third quarter.

The Lady Patriots (8-0) had three players in double figures. West got 16 points from sophomore Jayla Constant, 12 from fellow sophomore Kiana Gray (on four 3-pointers) and 11 points from senior Caya Smith in the win.

The Lady Panthers got 12 points from both senior Alaysia Burrough (who hit four treys) and junior Nykaiya Dillard in the loss.

The Lady Trojans led from start to finish and routed the host Lady Pirates in the opening girls’ game. Douglass held a commanding 33-4 lead after one quarter.

Douglass (6-2) had four players in double-figures in the win. Brianna Jones scored 23 points, followed by 18 from Kiara Smith and16 from Jordyn Anderson. N’Kyiah Burge added 14 points.

Junior Painshintz Booker led the Lady Pirates (4-5) with 12 points.
