CHICKASHA — Senior leadership paced the Putnam City at the Chickasha Classic Friday and Saturday (Jan. 30-31), as the Pirates finished eighth in an 18-team field.

Pirate seniors Michael Hernandez and Frank Arriola both reached the championship finals in their respective divisions. Hernandez (24-7) earned a second-place finish at 138 pounds, while Arriola (25-7) took the silver at 150 pounds after a hard-fought battle in the title match.

Joining them on the podium was senior Jason Stephenson, who secured third place at 215 pounds by pinning Duncan’s Isaac Cobbs in the consolation finals.

The Pirates also saw podium finishes from Talon Hall (190), Cameron Kopp (215), and Sebastian Rodriguez (HWT), who all placed sixth to help Putnam City edge out Midwest City and Heritage Hall for a spot in the top ten team standings.

UP NEXT

The regular season tournament slate is now complete for the Pirates. They will spend the next two weeks preparing for the Class 6A West Regional, set to take place Feb. 20-21 at Yukon.
