
MUSTANG — Putnam City junior DeMarre Threatt scored 23 points but the Pirates couldn’t overcome a fast start by Mustang in a 77-51 loss Tuesday (Jan. 6).
Threatt hit 8-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-5 from the 3-point line in the loss. He also has three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Broncos (9-2, 4-0 in 6A-1) sprinted out to a 15-7 lead after one quarter and an extended the lead to double digits in the second quarter.
Putnam City (1-7, 0-5 in 6A-1) played close with Mustang in the second and third quarters but was unable to cut into the deficit and struggled in the final period.
The Pirates shot 32 percent the field. Putnam City turned the ball over 20 times. Mustang had 15 turnovers, but outrebounded PC, 42-25.
Junior Ryan Young added six points, three rebounds and three assists for Original. Junior Myron Cooper also scored six points. He had five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
It was the first matchup between the Pirates and former coach Brandon Jackson who is also a Putnam City alum. Jackson moved to Mustang last March after one season at the helm at PC.
Mar’Quell Robinson, who transferred from PC, scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and had four assists.
Gabriel Osborne, Jr., another former Pirate, had a double-double against his former team. The junior scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and had 10 rebounds. Osborne dished out two assists and had five blocked shots.
Both Robinson and Osborne started for Mustang.
Former Putnam City West player Scyon Wilborn also started for the Broncos but struggled from the field. The sophomore scored two points on 1-of-7 shooting. He was 0-of-5 from the 3-point line.
Sophomore Garrett Smith led the Broncos with 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting. He also recorded a double-double with 14 rebounds. Smith had two assists and five blocked shots.

Putnam City (1-7, 0-5) will play in the Enid New Year’s Classic beginning Thursday (Jan. 8). The Pirates meet 3A Star Spencer (3-9) at 2:30 p.m.
The Bobcats fell to 4A John Marshall 62-57 on Dec. 19 and won by a forfeit from Unity Academy Tuesday.
