LAWTON — Putnam City scored early and often and piled up the points again Thursday (Oct. 9) in a 64-0 rout of Lawton Eisenhower at Cameron Stadium in a 6A-II District 1 contest.
The scoring started from the first play from scrimmage for the Pirates after senior DeShawn Buford returned the opening kickoff 41 yards to the Ike 48-yard line.
On the next play, senior quarterback CJ Turnbull connected with fellow senior Savion James over the middle for a touchdown.
Fifteen seconds had come off the game clock and the Pirates led, 7-0.
A PC defensive stop led to a short punt. That led to a 30-yard touchdown run from senior Rodgerick Sloan, Jr.
Special teams set up the next score. After another defensive stop, the snap went over senior punter Rydge Claborn’s head. He fell on it at the Eagle 10.
Two plays later senior lineman TreBreyon Timberlake ran it in from seven yards without being touched.
Turnbull got into the act with 2:23 left in the opening quarter with a 4-yard run.
The scoring pace didn’t slow much in the second quarter while Ike spent a lot of time punting.
Another Pirate score was set up late in the first quarter by a 35-yard swing pass to senior Mitchell Taylor. Three plays later and now in the second quarter, it was time for another lineman to rumble into the end zone.
Senior Solomon McGlory scored from one yard out and the lead was 35-0.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Pirates recovered the ball which hit the turf in front an Eisenhower player. That set the Pirates up at the Eagle 21-yard line.
Another big catch from Mitchell moved the ball to the Ike 4-yard line. Two plays later, Turnbull found James open in the end zone.
After a fourth down stop in Ike territory, the seventh score was set up by Turnbull finding senior Thomas Stone over the middle for a 34-yard completion to the 4-yard line.
Stone finished off the drive with a touchdown run near the end of the first half.
The running clock rolled on in the second half but Original kept scoring.
Facing a 4th down-and-17, junior Davion Hoffman weaved through defenders for a 44-yard touchdown run on a jet sweep with 6:06 left in the third quarter.
On the extra point attempt, a bad snap was corralled by the holder Keandre Huffman. The junior picked the ball up and sprinted around the right side for the 2-point conversion.
Putnam City scored one more time on a 43-yard run from sophomore Michael Ngugi in the fourth quarter.
