OKLAHOMA CITY — Western Heights’ Khamiyah Laster singled to right field in the in the sixth inning, breaking a tie with Community Christian and giving the Jets an 8-6 win Thursday (Aug. 14).

Laster’s game-winning hit was set up a leadoff walk from Raelynn Frost. Julissa Richards followed with a single and both runners moved up on the throw. Abby Castillo lined out and Laster’s single scored Frost and Richards to break the tie.

In the top of the seventh inning, Jet starter Jalesa Asimba worked around a single to seal the win.

Asimba pitched all seven innings. She allowed seven hits, six runs (four were earned). Asimba walked five batters and struck out nine.

Trailing 4-1 in the third inning, Western Heights had three singles and took advantage of two dropped third strikes and an error. The Jets scored four runs to take a 5-4 lead. Both teams then traded runs to tie the game.

Asimba went 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Abbie Bise and Ann-Marie Bohnstedt each had a single and a stolen base. Richards and Laster each had a hit.

Makayla Brown went 0-for-2 but reached base two times. She was hit by a pitch and reached on a dropped third strike. While on the base paths, Brown stole three bases including a steal of home in the second inning. She also drove in a run with a groundout.

UP NEXT

Western Heights plays in the Pauls Valley tournament Friday and Saturday (Aug. 15-16).
