CHOCTAW — Choctaw scored four runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie with Putnam City North en route to a 7-5 win Thursday (April 3).

The Panthers (1-16) scored two runs in the third inning on two walks and two singles to take a 2-1 lead. The Yellowjackets took the lead back in the bottom of the inning with two runs to make it 3-2.

North tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Senior Geoffry Schmid doubled to right field. Schmid came around to score on a pinch-hit single from senior Junior Garcia to make it 3-3.

Choctaw took the lead for good in the bottom half of the winning on three North walks, two singles and a hit batsmen.

The Panthers scored two runs in the seventh and had an opportunity to score more. Junior Quincy Robinson Walked. Fellow senior Austin Guerrero singled. Robinson scored on a groundout by Schmid (following a wild pitch).

Guerrero cut the deficit to 7-5 after scoring on another wild pitch. Senior Rocco Carattini singled to left field, bringing the tying run to the plate. Sophomore Treague Ferguson hit into a double play to end the game.

North had nine different players get one hit. The Panther struck out 10 times in the loss.

Junior Xavier Sarkey took the loss on the mound. Sarkey pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, five runs, five walks and striking out five batters.

UP NEXT

North (1-15) travels to 4A Bethany (13-3) Friday (April 4) at 5 p.m.

The Bronchos beat Clinton, 9-3, Wednesday.
