

NORMAN — Mar’Quell Robinson hit a layup as time expired to send Putnam City past Piedmont, 59-58, Friday (Feb. 28) in the Class 6A West Regional at Norman High School.
The last second bucket capped an 8-0 run for the Pirates in the last :55 of the game. The win ensured the Pirates a berth in the Area playoffs next week and sent them to the Regional title game Saturday.
Putnam City (19-5) trailed most of the game but stayed within striking distance.
Trailing 58-55, the Pirates pressured the Wildcats on an inbounds pass. Piedmont junior Carter Hainrihar threw it off side of the backboard and into the hands of Putnam City senior Kelton Locke who laid it in to make it 58-57 with :13 left.
The Pirates fouled Piemont junior Diron Carter, but he missed both free throws with :09 left. Pirate sophomore Gabe Osborne grabbed the rebound of the second missed shot and sprinted down the floor and passed the ball to Locke, who had it knocked out of bounds by Carter.
That set up the final sequence with three seconds remaining. Locke inbounded the ball to Robinson, who cut the to the basket for an easy layup before the horn sounded.
PC sophomore Miles Jackson had 14 points and three blocks in the win. Locked added 13 points and two steals.
Robinson finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Senior Johnn Sheffey followed with nine points and three rebounds.
Osborne scored six points and brought down five boards.
Senior JaColby Williams scored five points, had four rebounds, four assists and had two steals.
Piedmont senior Hudson Hite scored a game-high 21 points in the final game of his career.

Putnam City meets host Norman (20-5) for the Regional title Saturday (March 1) at 7 p.m.
The Tigers routed U.S. Grant, 60-22, Friday.
