WARR ACRES — Putnam City got 22 points from senior JaColby Williams for a big 6A-1 win, 54-46 over Norman North Friday (Jan. 31).
Williams hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter to help the Pirates stave off a Norman North rally.
“Amazing defensive effort by our group,” Putnam City coach Brandon Jackson said via text. “Really proud how we came out and put our focus on the defensive side and by doing that our offense took care of itself.”
Jackson highlighted senior Kelton Locke sophomores Mar’Quell Robinson and Gabe Osbborne defensively.
On offense, Osborne finished with 14 points and Locke scored eight points.
“John Sheffey was huge off the bench. Chris Williams came off the bench and gave us a great spark,” Jackson said.
He said that Chris Williams’ mid-range jumper in the second quarter proved to be important.
“Overall, I’m just really proud of the preparation this team had this week,” Jackson said.
With the win, Putnam City took the season series from Norman North. Both teams are 6-3 in district play. The Pirates split with district leader Southmoore and lost earlier this season to second place Deer Creek.
The Pirates will get another shot at Deer Creek Feb. 11.
