STILLWATER – Putnam City North turned the ball over five times Friday (Nov. 22) in a 49-14 Class 6A-II quarterfinal loss to third-ranked Stillwater.
“Missed opportunities, I mean we had chances to make plays,” Putnam City North coach Derek Lane said via phone. “We just didn’t execute well enough to make the play.”
After fifth-ranked North (8-4) opened the game with a three-and-out, the Pioneers (9-2) drove down the field and scored. Stillwater senior Shayden Green scored the first of his three touchdowns on a 2-yard run.
Two plays into the next possession, North turned the ball over. A pass from junior Mason Jones went over the head over senior Milton Alford and was deemed a backwards pass. Senior Tan Booth jumped on the football for the recovery at the North 18.
On the next play, freshman Jaedan Adams scored to make it 14-0 with 8:51 left in the first quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff, senior Kameron Oliver found a seam in the middle of the field and sprinted 89 yards for a touchdown to halve the deficit to 14-7.

Stillwater extended the lead to 21-7 in the second quarter when senior quarterback Mason Schubert connected with sophomore Deakon Jones on a 40-yard touchdown pass with 7:47 left before halftime.
The Panthers looked poised to answer, driving to the Pioneer 19-yard line. On fourth down, junior Mason Jones’ pass to senior Lewis Moreland was intercepted by Stillwater senior Keaton Mason, ending the scoring threat with 5:02 left in the half. It was the first of three interceptions for Jones.
In the third quarter, the Pioneers pulled away, scoring three times to make it 42-7.
On the ensuing kickoff, North senior Kyran Axtell ran it back 72 yards to the Stillwater 8-yard line.
On the next play, Jones ran the ball in to make it 42-14 with 2:20 left in the third quarter.
North’s playoff win last Friday (Nov. 15) over Southmoore marked only the fourth season since 2000 where North has won a playoff game.
Despite the quarterfinal loss, Lane said the playoff push was big for the program.
“I think it’s huge for our program and just trying to build a culture here at North,” Lane said. “Just showing that I think the kids being able to see the hard work that it takes to get to this point.”
