Putnam City football coach Willis Alexander was inducted into the Langston University Athletics Hall of Fame recently.

Alexander played football at Langston from 1991-1994.

“(I’m) just honored privileged to have someone think that I’m worthy,” Alexander said after the Pirates’ 56-6 win over U.S. Grant Friday (Oct. 18). “I’m humbled and really speechless to the fact that I’m in a place now where my name will be remembered forever.”

Alexander was a unanimous as a NAIA First Team All-American selection and Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference (OIC) All-Conference First Team member in 1994. He was named OIC All-Conference Honorable Mention in 1993 and was an Academic All-American selection from 1993-1995.

The Douglass High School graduate also was member of the Lion track team. He was an All-Conference runner in the 400-meter run (1992, 1994), the 4X400-meter relay (1994, 1995) and the 4X100-meter relay (1994).
 
Alexander was also a three-year captain when Langston finished as the OIC Conference Champions in 1993 and 1994.
