OKLAHOMA CITY — Putnam City junior Jonas Stinson-Powers broke a state record that had stood for nearly 50 years and later won a state championship in a different event Friday and Saturday (May 15-16) at the 6A state track meet at Western Heights.

On Friday, Stinson-Powers eclipsed a state record in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles. Stinson-Powers recorded 13.82. That mark beat Lawton’s Albert Jones, who ran the race in 13.86 in 1980.

In the finals on Saturday, Stinson-Powers finished second in the event with a time of 13.93.

Stinson-Powers captured the state title in the 300-meter hurdles in 38.05.

As a team, the boys finished 15th with 18 points.

For the girls, senior MaKayla Ridley ended up second in the 100 meters. She ran the final in 11.71.

The girls team was 15th with 15.5 points.
