PONCA CITY – Putnam City finished its softball season with two losses Wednesday (Oct. 9) in the Class 6A Regional 8, hosted by Ponca City.

PONCA CITY 16, PUTNAM CITY 3

A seven-run first inning was too much for the Lady Pirates to overcome as the Lady Cats built a 9-0 lead in the second inning.

PC got two runs back in the second. Sophomore Tessa Goodner singled to lead off the inning. Fellow sophomore Payton Grigsby ran for Goodner and later scored on a bunt single from Alexandra Hatlelid.

Hatlelid stole second and third bases and scored on on error to make it 9-2.

Sophomore Madi Gossman made it 9-3 in the fourth inning by sending a ball over the right field wall.

Ponca City responded with seven runs in the fifth en route to a run-rule win.

Sophomores Samantha Tidmore, Goodner, Gossman, Francis Meza and Hatlelid each had a hit.

EDMOND NORTH 15, PUTNAM CITY 8

After a Gossman RBI-double in the first inning, Putnam City scored five runs in the second inning for an early 6-0 lead.

The Lady Pirates got three singles and an error to build a 3-0 lead. Goodner hit a three-run homer over the center field wall to make it 6-0.

Edmond North bounced back in the third inning with two singles, two doubles and an error to make it 6-4.

The Lady Huskies tied the game, 6-6, in the fifth. PC pulled back ahead in the sixth on an RBI-single from Maece Bourbonnais which scored Hatlelid.

Edmond North followed with a nine-run inning in the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Pirates committed six errors in the inning to make it 15-7.

Original scored one final run in the seventh. After two errors, junior Dahlia Hickerson grounded into a fielder’s choice which scored Goodner.

The Lady Pirates outhit Edmond North, 10-9, in the loss but nine errors proved to be too much. Bourbonnais and Hatlelid both went 3-for-4.

Of the 15 runs allowed by Bourbonnais and Goodner in the circle, only four were earned runs.

Putnam City finishes the season at 7-26.
