OKLAHOMA CITY – The Lady Bronchos split two games against 6A opponents in the Northwest Festival Friday (Sept. 20) at Oklahoma Christian University.

Bethany coach Booker Blakley said playing this level of competition is important for his squad.

“We’ve had one of the tougher schedules on 4A, about half our games have been against 6A or state tournament level teams,” Blakley said via text. “It’s good for the girls to see they have what it takes to win those.”

The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of eight Bethany errors.

The Lady Bronchos took a 2-0 lead in the first. Junior Madison Bibbs tripled to center field, scoring senior Ireland Riley, who had singled to lead off the game. Bibbs later scored on a single from junior Alyssa Daniels.

Thanks to an error and triple in the bottom half of the inning, Edmond Memorial tied the game at 2-2.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead in the second inning and an error played a part.

In the fourth, two errors, two singles and a sacrifice fly brought in three runs for Memorial to make it 6-2.

In the fifth, Bibbs doubled in Riley. Bibbs scored on an infield error to make it 6-4.

In the sixth, the Lady Bulldogs added an insurance run on a Bethany error to extend the lead to 7-4.

Both Riley and Bibbs went 2-for-4. Sophomore Jules Barger, junior Alyssa Daniels and junior Paige Sechrist each had a hit.

Junior Jayda Davis allowed five hits over six innings. Of Davis’ seven runs allowed, only one run was earned.

After Stillwater got a lone run in the first inning, the Lady Bronchos answered in the third.

With runners at first base and third base, Riley scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

In the fourth sophomore Grey Williamson singled and scored on an error to give Bethany its first lead. Two batters later, junior Emma Buxton followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 3-1.

Riley added Bethany’s final run in the fifth, scoring on a single form junior Berkley Johnson.

After the run in the first, Sechrist allowed only four more base runners. The junior allowed three hits over seven innings, walking two and striking out two.

The Lady Bronchos did not commit an error in the win.

“Both our pitchers did great today, just one got better support from her defense,” Blakley said. “We have to be good defensively for whoever is in the circle.”

Riley and Geissler each had two hits. Johnson, Williamson, Daniels and Buxton each had a hit.
