NEWCASTLE – Putnam City North struggled at the plate in a 4-1 loss to 4A Newcastle Thursday (Sept. 12).

The Lady Panthers didn’t have a base runner until the fourth inning when senior Monica Coats reached on an error on a hard hit ball to third base.

The Lady Racers scored a run in the bottom half of the inning and three runs in the fifth inning.

North didn’t score until the seventh inning when freshman Kayleigh Andrews singled in senior Aubrey Miller with two outs.

Miller went 1-for-2 with a double on the day. Fellow senior Raya Shawareb finished 1-for-3. Andrews also went 1-for-3.

North was held to three hits in the loss.

Senior Angel Franklin allowed seven hits in six innings. Of the four runs she allowed, one was earned. Franklin struck out three batters.
