OKLAHOMA CITY – Mason Jones’ Panther debut produced two scores in Putnam City North’s 35-3 win over 5A Shawnee Friday (Sept. 6).

The junior and Bishop McGuinness transfer was 12-of-19 for 194 yards and two scores. His only blemish was an interception.

On the ground, senior Milton Alford rushed for 87 yards and 20 carries with two scores.

Alford also tied for the reception lead with three catches for 36 yards. Fellow senior Jakorey Locked also had three catches for 36 yards with a touchdown. Senior Kameron Oliver had two catches for 30 yards and a score.

The Panther defense scored the first points of the season when Jonnas Stinson-Powers returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter Friday.

Senior Dameon Hardmon and junior Bishop Moore each had seven tackles and two tackles for loss.

North sacked Shawnee quarterback Zyron Campbell three times. Hardmon, seniors Tyrie Caldwell and Kelvin Tucker all got to the quarterback.

PIRATES, PANTHERS WIN IN SPURTS

The Panthers travel to Putnam City this Friday (Sept. 13) in the “Battle of the Expressway” at Pirate Stadium.

Since 2015, each team has had dueling winning streaks. From 2015-2017, Original won three straight. From 2018-2020, the Panthers had three straight victories. From 2021 through last year’s 56-20 Pirate win, Putnam City has won three straight overall.

Since the series began in 1982 (four years after North opened), the Panthers lead the series, 25-18.

North won nine straight from 1988-1996. PC’s longest winning streak in the series was four straight from 2005-2007. In 2007, the teams met in the first round of the playoffs as well as their regular season meeting.
