We Cover the Jets. West Metro Sports

OKLAHOMA CITY – After playing as independent last season, Western Heights returns to Class 5A this season with a new coach.

The season begins Friday (Sept. 6) against Class 6A-II’s U.S. Grant.

New Western Heights coach Travis Burdine is clear about what he expects from his new team.

“This is a season of development, not a rebuild,” Burdine told West Metro Sports. “There has always been a structure in place to make the athletic program rise to high standards.

“We just have to develop our programs and our players to understand that it takes commitment and dedication to be able to reap the glory like other programs. This season will be a great step in the right direction of development.”

Western Heights finished 2-5 last season with wins over Class A schools Hinton and Watonga. The Jets won their first game since 2019.

“This season with the revamp of the leadership and goal-driven administration. I believe that there are changes coming in a positive manner both on the field and in the classroom. We took time to learn the students and see how we can benefit them and give them a better future. The most important part of being a teacher/coach is learning. We focused on learning from our players so in return we can teach them better,” Burdine said.
