OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Secondary Activities Association released the revised football districts for the next two seasons Thursday (May 16).

The revised districts came after five Oklahoma City area private schools sued, protesting the association’s rules on success factor. The lawsuit resulted in a preliminary injunction prohibiting the OSSAA from implementing some of the rules, necessitating the reclassification.

PIRATES HEAD WEST TO DISTRICT 1

In 6A-II, Putnam City moves from District 2 to District 1. Last season, the Pirates played their first home playoff game since 2007, beat Tahlequah. Original fell in the quarterfinals to power and then-defending state champion Stillwater to finish at 5-7.

The Pirates are now in the same district with the Pioneers (10-3). Stillwater fell to Muskogee in the state title game.

A district opponent from last year, Choctaw (8-2) joins the Pirates. The Yellowjackets lost to Stillwater in the semifinals.

Lawton Eisenhower (5-5) moves up from 5A to 6A-II District 2. The Eagles missed the playoffs last year. Northwest Classen (1-9) moves to District 1 from District 2.

Piedmont makes its 6A-II debut in District 1 in 2024. The school was a Class 4A school in 2013 and was in Class 3A as recently as 2003. The Wildcats were 7-4 in 2023, losing to Elgin in the first round of the playoffs.

Southmoore drops down from Class 6A-I. The Sabrecats have been the state’s top division in football since 6A was split up in 2014. The new 6A-II District 1 foe was 0-10 last year.

Finally, U.S. Grant rounds out District 1. The Generals were 2-8 last year in District 2 but did not win a district game.

PATRIOTS, PANTHERS HEAD EAST

Both Putnam City West and Putnam City North will be in District 2, which is comprised mostly of teams from the eastern part of the state.

The Patriots finished last season 5-6, losing in the first round of the playoffs to Ponca City. The Panthers were 4-7, falling in the first round to Bartlesville.

Bartlesville is in District 2 now. The Bruins finished 5-7, losing to Deer Creek after beating North. Ponca City is in the district after going 6-6. The Wildcats lost to Muskogee after beating West in the playoffs.

Capitol Hill is the only other west side team in the district. The Red Wolves were 0-10 in 2023.

Defending 6A-II State Champion Muskogee is in the district. The Roughers beat Stillwater for the title, finishing 11-2. Muskogee avenged an earlier loss to Stillwater with the win. The only other loss was to 5A champ Carl Albert.

Sand Springs was 8-4 in 2023. The Sandites beat Lawton in the playoffs before losing to Choctaw in the quarterfinals.

Finally, Sapulpa is in District 2. The Chieftains move up from Class 5A where they were 7-4 in 2023. Sapulpa lost to Claremore in the first round of the playoffs.
