OKLAHOMA CITY – Moore ran its winning streak to 12 games with a 60-54 win over Putnam City North Tuesday (Feb. 13) in each team’s regular season finale in Class 6A District 1.
The Lions (16-5, 10-4) picked up the win despite 31 points from Anthony Leonard. The junior scored all 15 points for the Panthers in the first quarter to give North a 15-9 lead. He capped the quarter off with a fadeaway jumper as time expired to end the quarter.
Moore roared back in the second quarter, taking advantage of North turnovers and two 3-pointers from junior Tristan Hankins.
Leonard and the Panthers (9-14, 3-11) came back after halftime as he scored 12 points to give North a 45-41 lead going into the final period.
The Lions had one more in them as the lead changed hands a few times. North took a 54-52 lead after a 3-point play from junior Khai Brown. The Lions finished the game on an 8-0 run. The Lions’ Darian Grant scored seven of his 23 points in the fourth quarter. Lion teammate added six of his 17 points in the final period.
Leonard was held to only two points in the final quarter.
Leonard’s 31 points was shy of his career-high of 43 points which he scored against Capitol Hill Dec. 12. Leonard also scored 31 points against Carl Albert Dec. 29.
The Panthers’ D’Karin Johnson added 10 points in the loss.
UP NEXT: Putnam City North will travel to Lawton to take on the Wolverines in the first round of the regional playoffs next Thursday (Feb. 22) at 6 p.m.
