OKLAHOMA CITY – Putnam City North turned a five-point lead late in the fourth quarter into a 16-point win Tuesday (Feb. 13) with a 59-43 season finale victory over Moore in a Class 6A District 1 contest.

With 2:12 left, the Lady Panthers led by only five. North went on a 11-0 run to finish the game with a junior Haniya Geretta bucket, a couple of layups from freshman Demy Howard and 3-pointer from senior Nevaeh Sanchez.

“When we’re hitting shots, we look really good,” Putnam City North coach Logan Martin said to 1340 The Game’s John Brooks after the game. “And how to play through it when we’re, we’re dry offensively. And so that’s kind of been our struggle this year. But, I was really proud of them.”

Alaysia Burrough scored a game-high 20 points, burying three 3-pointers in the first quarter and one trey in every other quarter.

“You know, she’s been our energy and spark for us,” Martin said to Brooks. “She’s capable of getting hot.”

Geretta finished with 13 points and Sanchez added 12 points in the win.

BROOKSIE RETIRES FROM PLAY-BY-PLAY: Brooks, the legendary broadcaster, announced that he was retiring after the game from play-by-play broadcasting. Brooks and Putnam City district athletic director Dick Balenseifen will continue to host prep sports talk shows on the station. In recent years, the duo had broadcast selected games from each of the Putnam City schools.

Brooks’ storied career included a stint as the University of Oklahoma football and basketball broadcaster from 1974-1991 as well as a broadcasting Oklahoma City Blazers hockey from 1965-2005. He was inducted in the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Hall-of-Fame in 2009.

UP NEXT: Putnam City North hosts Lawton Tuesday (Feb. 20) in the first round of the regional playoffs. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.

Martin told Brooks there was plenty for her squad to work on during the break before the playoffs start.

“Defensively, where we’re playing four quarters, solid aggressive, where it helps,” Martin said. “Where we’re able to play our pressure man, you know, four quarters. And, then zone offense. We’re gonna still work on that.”
