YUKON – The Lady Patriots overcame a sluggish offensive start to beat the Lady Millers, 57-35, in a contest between the top two teams in Class 6A’s District 2.

If there was any rust after not playing Friday, Jan. 26 (due to Northwest Classen’s forfeit), it came on the offensive end for West.

“We started slow offensively but defensively we were able to pick up the slack,” Putnam City West coach Ja’Ron Jefferson said. “Defensively we gave ourselves a chance tonight.”

West (17-1) led by only four after one quarter (10-6), but opened the lead from that point.

Senior Caya Smith and sophomore Jayla Constant each scored 14 points in the win.

UP NEXT: The Lady Patriots return home Friday (Feb. 2) to meet Lawton in another district contest.

Tip-off is at 6 p.m.

“We only have a few games left until playoffs so we have to fine tune a few things!,” Jefferson said.
