OKLAHOMA CITY — After falling behind early to 5A El Reno, Putnam City West fought back but a lengthy third quarter drive by the Indians led to a 52-39* loss Friday (Sept. 4).

The Patriots (1-1) forced a 3-and-out on El Reno’s opening possession. Senior Aizjon Robinson took the punt 71 yards for a touchdown.

Then the Indians took control, scoring 31 straight points, giving West a steady diet of juniors Decarlos Banks and Grant First. Banks had three touchdowns and FIrst had four scores in the contest.

West didn’t go quietly and Robinson scored from 32 yards out in the second quarter.

Later, Junior KJ Cowell connected with sophomore Jaylen Wright from 25 yards. The Indians drove deep into Patriot territory but senior Kendyll Weaver provided an answer just before the half ended.

Weaver picked off the Indian’s Nathan Ashmore two yards deep in the end zone and took it back for a score as time expired to make it 38-27*.

West took the opening drive of the third quarter to the El Reno 24, but couldn’t convert on fourth down.

The Indians took over with 9:59 left in the third quarter and embarked on a lengthy drive that ended with a First touchdown with 3:52 left in the quarter.

First would add another score before the end of the quarter.

West scored twice in the fourth quarter for the final total.

The Patriots host Enid next Friday (Sept. 11) at 7 p.m.

The Plainsmen (0-2) have traditionally been a 6A-I school but are competing as an independent this season. Enid lost a 40-37 game with 5A Midwest City Friday.
