

Putnam City West won 3 of 4 to finish third at the OKC Invitational Thursday through Saturday (April 2-4).
“It was an overall good weekend, I’m proud of my boys,” Putnam City West Grason Wright said via text. “With only having two seniors, our underclassmen are handling adversity better and better as the year goes on.
“Our bats were hot when we needed them to be, 30+ hits in a weekend is usually a recipe for success.”

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Patriot bats struggled in a shutout loss to the Saints, eighth-ranked in 2A-2.
Junior Aaron De Loera, senior Ezequiel Hernandez and sophomore Malachi Ferguson each had hits.
Sophomore Cadence Smith took the loss after allowing four hits and six runs over four innings. Smith walked three batters and struck out seven.

WARR ACRES — West racked up nine hits and walked 11 times in the three-inning run-rule win over the 5A Spartans.
West scored seven runs each in the first and third innings.
Ferguson, junior Daniel Hoyt and freshman Tylor Mason each had two hits. Ferguson and Hoyt drove in three runs each. Ferguson had a double.
Smith, Hernandez and senior Kasen Jones each had a hit. Hernandez added a double and two runs batted in.
Freshman Riley Axtell allowed two hits and an unearned win in three innings of work. Axtell walked one batter and struck out six.

OKLAHOMA CITY — The offensive onslaught continued in another three-inning run-rule victory.
West scored six runs in the top of the second, breaking a 2-2 tie with 4A Harding Charter Prep.
De Loera, Jones and Smith each had a pair of hits. Jones had a double, De Loera tripled and Smith homered.
Smith drove in six runs.
Ferguson, Mason and Axtell added hits. The Patriots took advantage of seven walks.
Junior Ruben Torres Gonzales allowed runs on three hits in one inning of work. He walked three batters and struck out one. Mason pitched two innings in relief for the win. Mason allowed three hits and struck out three batters.

The Patriots scored five runs in the fifth inning and eight runs in the sixth inning for a comeback win over the host Saints a 5A school.
Tied at 7 in the sixth inning, the Patriots were patient at the plate with six walks and a hit batsmen. Hernandez added a single and De Loera broke the game open with a three-run triple to make it 13-7.
Hernandez finished with a 3-for-4 day with three runs batted in. De Loera went 3-for-5 with two triples and three RBIs.
Smith went 2-for-2, stole four bases and drove in a run.
Ferguson, Jones, Hoyt and Axtell each had hits. Ferguson doubled and Jones stole three bases.
Mason earned the win in relief pitchin 2 1/3 innings. Mason allowed two hits and one run. He struck out two batters.
