

DALLAS — Putnam City North advanced to the semifinals of the Dr. Pepper Holiday Invitational with two wins on Monday (Dec. 29).
PUTNAM CITY NORTH 67, DENTON BASWELL (TEXAS) 56
In a game that tipped off at 8:30 a.m., the Panthers held off a third-quarter surge from Denton Braswell for the win.
North held a 36-21 lead at halftime but Braswell went on a 25-14 run in the third period to cut the lead to 50-46.
The Panthers got 3-pointers from senior Jayla Constant, junior Demy Howard and senior Kiana Gray in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.
Gray finished with 19 points with four treys. She also had two rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Gray was perfect from the field, going 6-for-6. She also hit all three of her free throws.
Senior D’Nae Jefferson added 15 points, five rebounds and a steal. Constant followed with 11 points, five rebounds, one assist and two steals.
Howard scored seven points, brought down three rebounds and had one assist and two steals.
Senior Makiya Moore finished with six points, four rebounds and two assists.
Bengal junior Demi Dangerfield scored 24 points, with 11 points in the third-quarter rally. Dangerfield sank five treys.
Fellow junior Delilah Jeffrey added 12 points, eight of which came in the third quarter.

North sprinted out to a 26-6 first quarter lead in the evening rout.
Like the first game, the Panthers had three players score in double-figures. Constant scored a game-high 18 points with six rebounds and three steals.
Senior Tehlia Kutsoati followed with 16 points, three rebounds and a steal. Senior Makiya Moore added 10 points and six rebounds.
In all, nine Panthers scored in the blowout win.
Jefferson scored eight points and had nine rebounds, four assists, a steal and a blocked shot.
Gray had six points, a rebound, four assists and two steals.
Junior Richiya Miller had four points, three rebounds and three steals.
Sophomore Kate Ferguson scored three points and had a rebound. Junior Mya Anderson also had three points. Anderson added two rebounds, an assist, a steal and a blocked shot.
Freshman Lyla Shomo had a point, three rebounds, and assist. She also took a charge.

UP NEXT
North (10-1) will play the Pool A first-place squad Tuesday (Dec. 30) at 4 p.m.
Dallas Lincoln won both of its games Monday and appears to be the pool winner. They beat 4A Douglass, 53-50, and followed with a 63-60 win over Byron Nelson (Texas).
Lincoln (10-7) won the 4A Division II state title in Texas a season ago, finishing 39-2.
The Tigers have Old Dominion signee Ar’Jayla Elder and added North Texas signee Bralyah Miller, a transfer from Tyler (Texas).
