KINGFISHER — Bethany struggled from beyond the arc and had 18 turnovers against Kingfisher Tuesday (Dec. 9) in a 65-40 loss to the Yellowjackets in the Western Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
“It was not a good showing for us,” Bethany coach Eric Sailer said via text. “The good news it is the beginning of the season and we have time to grow.”
Bethany was 15-of-31 from the field but hit just 1-of-12 from the 3-point line.
Kingfisher racked up 12 assists while Bethany had only two assists.
Sailer wants his team to work on fundamentals.
“Be better at offensive and defensive execution! As an individuals we need to own our mistakes and move on to the next play!”
Sailer said the “basketball can be made easy.
“Are you blocking out every time? Do you see ball and defender at all times on defense? Are you making a good pass? Are you receiving a good pass? Are you giving max effort every play? How is my shot selection?”
Sailer said he and his staff had to work with the players to answer those questions.
“Like I said, it is the beginning and we have time to work on these things. We have to improve across the board or we will continue the path we are on, which is not a path of much success.”
Junior Camryn Regier had 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting. She added five rebounds, four blocks and four steals.
Senior Madison Bibbs followed with eight points in the loss.
