KINGFISHER — Bethany solidified its spot in second place of 4A District 3 and and the honor of hosting regional next week after a 4-0 shutout of Kingfisher Tuesday (Sept. 23).

The Bronchos collected 10 hits and had a hit in every inning except the fourth inning. Despite the offensive output, the game remained scoreless entering the seventh inning.

“I thought we had a pretty solid night at the plate,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said via text. “Had a hard time getting that last hit in a few innings earlier in the game so we weren’t able to put up a run earlier.”

With two outs in the seventh inning, the Bronchos finally broke through. Seniors Maddison McNutt singled and Madison Bibbs followed with a walk. Junior Jule Barger hit an 0-2 pitch into center field to score both runners and break the tie.

“Jules really stepped up there in the 7th with the game on the line,” Blakley said. “Once we finally were able to get that bubble to burst, we were able to string together some hits to give us a more comfortable lead.”

Freshman Rian Rollins singled Barger home to make it 3-0. Junior Ella Davis singled in freshman Avery Bibbs, who pinch ran for Rollins for the final run.

While the Broncho offense was waiting for a big inning, senior Paige Sechrist kept Kingfisher quited, allowing just three hits over the full seven innings. She didn’t walk a batter and struck out three.

The Yellow Jackets only real threat came in the sixth when a double and single gave Kingfisher two runners in scoring position. Sechrist coaxed a groundout to end the inning.

“Paige had another fantastic outing,” Blakley said. “Really kept them off balance all night.”

Blakley credited Sechrist and the defense from keeping a run from coming across in the sixth inning.

“I feel like our pitching staff is going to keep us in every game that we’ll have going forward.”

Ell Davis paced the team with a 3-for-4 performance and a run batted in. Barger was 2-for-4 with two double and two RBIs. Rollins was also 2-for-4 and drove in a run.

McNutt went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Senior Berkley Johnson finished 1-for-3 on the day.

Blakley said it was the first time in recent memory that the Bronchos have hosted a regional.

“Happy for the kids to be able to add that to their accomplishments but we know it’s not our end goal,”
