
EL RENO — Putnam City North suffered a walkoff 7-6 loss to 5A El Reno Tuesday (Aug. 19).
The Panthers (3-8) had a 5-3 lead but the Indians scored two runs to tie in the seventh inning on a double and an error.
North answered with a run in the eighth on an RBI-single from junior Kayla Orton which scored freshman Amaya Frazier, who was placed on second base to start the inning for the tiebreaker.
In the bottom of the inning, a North error moved El Reno’s runner, Addilinn Trumbley-Johnson, to third base. Zoey Pawnee tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Trumbley-Johnson.
North senior Jayda Stevenson struck out the next batter for the second out and then walked one.
El Reno’s Taylor Acosta singled to left field on a 0-2 pitch to score Brailynn Vickery for the win.
“We made way too many errors but we had the best offense of production this year as well,” North coach D’Antae Mitchell said via text. “And they did a great job capitalizing off our mistakes.”
The Panthers outhit the Indians, 9-6, and each team committed numerous errors – five for North and seven for El Reno.
Orton finished 2-for-4 with a double and three runs batted in. Junior Laila Willoby sophomore Kaelyn Staden each was 2-for-4.
Senior Peyton Standridge, junior Savannah Martinez and sophomore Kayleigh Andrews each had a hit. Martinez also stole a base.
Stevenson pitched the entire game. She allowed six hits. Of the seven runs she allowed, only was earned due to the errors. Stevenson walked nine batters and struck out 10.
