HARRAH — Harrah beat Bethany on a penalty kick in double overtime, 2-1, Thursday (April 17) in a 4A-1 match.
Bethany coach Sean Williams said the loss was “really hard to process,” citing issues with the wind.
“(Harrah) did a great job coming out and using the wind to create chaos in our half, which led to them scoring off a corner kick,” Williams said via text. “I think it definitely took us 15-20 minutes to adjust to dealing with the wind.
Junior Eli Marquez tied the match, 1-1, at the 11:36 mark of the second period with a goal.
“I thought in the second half we did a great job of creating chaos with the wind and Eli was able to score a great goal. Unfortunately, we committed a foul under a minute left and their player took a great kick.”
With around thirty seconds left in the second overtime, the Panthers scored a goal to seal the win.
“I think the wind just created a very turbulent game that lacked any rhythm and whoever managed those situations the best was going to win,” Williams said. “I thought they did a great job of making us uncomfortable and unfortunately, we lost the game.”
