MIDWEST CITY — Putnam City North couldn’t overcome a five-run second inning from host Carl Albert in a 10-5 loss on the first day of the Bill Tipton Classic Thursday (April 10).

After falling behind, 3-0, after one inning, North answered with three runs with two outs in the second inning. The Panthers took advantage of the Titans’ lone error in the game.

Sophomore Treague Ferguson followed with a single. Junior Austin Guerrero was hit by a pitch. Junior Robert Marcy added another single to score senior Aaron Wall (who had reached base on the error).

Ferguson came around to score on a wild pitch. Junior JaQuari Dansby hit into a fielder’s choice that scored Guerrero to tie the game at 3-3.

In the bottom half of the second inning, Carl Albert roared back with two doubles, a triple and two walks to make it 8-3.

The Titans extended the lead to 10-3 with single runs in the third and fourth innings.

In the sixth (and final) inning, North scored two runs on a single, two walks and a hit batsmen.

Marcy, junior Quincy Robinson, junior Owen Attebery, Ferguson, Guerrero and junior Alfredo Renteria each had a hit.

Dansby drove in two runs in the loss.

Senior Geoffry Schmid and sophomore Devin Orton combined to give up nine hits and 10 runs (eight which were earned) in five innings. The duo walked seven batters and struck out two.

UP NEXT

The Panthers shift sites to Shawnee to face 5A Del City (0-16) Friday (April 11) at 12:30 p.m.

The Eagles meet host Shawnee at 10 a.m. before playing North. On Thursday, Del City was routed by 4A Bethany, 12-0.

North then faces Norman (11-12) at 3 p.m.

The Tigers upended tournament organizer Carl Albert, 4-3, Thursday.
