SURPRISE, Ariz. — Putnam City lost twice in the Best of the West festival Tuesday (March 17) in the Phoenix area.
BOULDER CREEK (ARIZ.) 13, PUTNAM CITY 2
The Pirates fell behind early to Boulder Creek (a 6A school in Arizona). The Jaguars scored seven runs in the first inning and five runs in the second innings.
The Pirates avoided the shutout in the fourth inning. Freshman MJ Petties walked with one out. Senior JT Twillie followed with a bunt single. Fellow senior Lukas Poindexter later tripled to center field, scoring both.
Sophomore Bryson Vanover, Petties and senior Henry Plata all had walks in the game. The Pirates struck out eight times in the loss.
Putnam City starter Andrew Simon allowed 12 hits in five innings. Only one of the senior’s runs allowed was earned because of seven Pirate errors. Simon walked one batter and struck out three.

The Pirates were no-hit by Lake Havasu (Ariz.) sophomore Deegan Cross in five innings.
Putnam City managed three baserunners in the loss. Poindexter reached on a dropped third strike in the second inning. Fellow senior Connor Fast walked in the third inning and senior Twillie reached on a pop fly error by Cross in the fourth inning.
The Knights (a 5A school in Arizona) broke open a 2-0 game in the second inning, scoring five runs. Lake Havasu had nine hits and took advantage of four Pirate errors.
