OKLAHOMA CITY – Putnam City North fell to Bridge Creek, 6-2, Thursday (March 6) at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets.
“Playing at ‘The Brick’ was an amazing experience that the kids will remember forever,” Putnam City North coach Greg Johnson said via text. “The Comets organization as a whole was great.”
North (1-2) outhit 4A Bridge Creek, 8-5, but struggled to score runs.
“We struggled early on at the plate and didn’t get timely hit with runners on base,” Johnson said.
The Bobcats (2-0) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning. Bridge Creek took advantage of passed ball on a third strike, an error and two singles.
“Defensively we gave them too many free outs,” Johnson said. “Five of their six runs being unearned is hard to overcome.”
Errors and walks played a role in a 4-run sixth inning for Bridge Creek to extend the lead to 6-0.
North finally got on the board in the seventh inning with doubles from junior Jonathan Lopez and Mitchell Taylor. Junior Garcia, a senior, singled in Taylor to make it 6-2.
