BETHANY – The Lady Bronchos bounced back from a tough weekend festival with a dominant 12-0 shutout over Clinton Monday (Aug. 26) in a Class 4A district 1 matchup.
“(It’s) always good to get a district win, especially a comfortable one,” Bethany coach Booker Blakley said via text.
Junior Madison Bibbs started the scoring by sending a ball over the center field fence for a two-run home run.
“Bibbs set the tone early,” Blakley said.
Bethany’s offense wasn’t done, scoring five runs in the second inning on five singles, a walk and Lady Red error. Clinton committed five errors in the game.
The Lady Bronchos (5-9, 2-1 in district play) added five more runs in the third inning, highlighted by sophomore Emma Geissler’s triple to left field.
Junior Jayda Davis earned the five-inning shutout, allowing four hits and striking out eight batters.
“Jayda did a good job getting herself out of jams early in the game and once she settled in really did a good job,” Blakley said.
Davis loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first inning allowing two walks and a single. Davis responded by striking out two consecutive batters to erase the threat.
In the second inning, Davis got the first two batters out, then loaded the bases on a walk and two singles. Once again, Davis got the punchout to end the inning.
From there, Davis allowed one baserunner, a single in the fifth en route to the win.
Bibbs went 3-for-3 with four runs batted in. Senior Ireland Riley added a 1-for-2 day, driving in three runs.
